Piano Four Hands

Ages: 18+

Class length: 45 minutes

Many students start learning to play the piano with dreams of going on stage alone and single handedly wowing an audience. While most people know piano shines as a solo instrument, one of its under-appreciated strengths is its versatility in an ensemble. This class explores music written for two people on one or two pianos, opening opportunities for collaboration and community. Join us for an extended workshop of four hands piano music, where we dive into orchestral arrangements, original compositions, popular show tunes, and more.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to play in time with someone else (and not panic if either of you mess up!)
  • How to listen in the moment and react as a partnership
  • How to listen to the other performers in class and provide them with positive and constructive feedback
  • Gain confidence performing as part of a team

Whether you're looking to grow as a pianist, meet other musicians, or just try something new, this course offers a supportive and fun environment to do it.

***Students should submit the sheet music from one or two pieces they’ve played recently so the appropriate pairings can be made. To be successful in this class, students should be able to read music well and have a good understanding of rhythm. Students will be responsible for learning their individual parts on their own. Please submit music to Keith Allegretti at [email protected]
